WASHINGTON -

Three Berks County students have been nominated to the U.S. military academies for the class of 2017.

“I am proud to announce the nominations of Ryan Patrick Andrieux, Alex David Fernandez and Andrew Ray Lysakowski to the U.S military academies,” said U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa. "The selection process for the military academies is very competitive and nominees must demonstrate the highest caliber of academic success, leadership skills and character. Ryan, Alex and Andrew embody these qualities, and I wish them the best with all their future endeavors.”

Andrieux, a student at Exeter Township Senior High School, has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Fernandez, a student at USAF Prep and a graduate of Wilson High School, has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Lysakowski, a student at Muhlenberg High School, has been nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

To be appointed to a U.S. service academy, Toomey said all potential students must be nominated by either a member of Congress or the vice president. Selection criteria include academics, proven leadership and fitness as a military officer.

Appointments will be announced in the coming weeks, Toomey said.
