Operation Spellbound

HARRISBURG, Pa. -

Officials announced the arrest of 29 suspected drug dealers Thursday, including the alleged ringleader from Allentown.

Pa. Attorney General Kathleen Kane, along with the Huntington County District Attorney's office filed charges against the 29, as part of an ongoing heroin trafficking investigation called "Operation Spellbound."

The ring allegedly distributed more than 3,000 bags of heroin per week--around 150,000 per year -- over the past three years, with an estimated street value of more than $14 million.

A grand jury identified the ringleader as 31-year-old Curtis Koehler, who is originally from Allentown. Officials said he moved to Huntington County, located in the center of the state, after the drug organization became established and profitable.

According to the grand jury, Koehler recruited dozens of local people to transport heroin from Philadelphia and Lehigh counties for distribution in and around Huntington County.

As a result of the investigation, agents seized approximately 3,000 bags of heroin with an estimated street value of $90,000, approximately eight guns, and cash, officials said.
