Another Freddy Awards ceremony is in the books, and lots of students from all over the region are going home with some new hardware. There were 21 categories, and hundreds of students who were hoping to hear their name called.
It's a night of glitz and glamour, starting with an opening number that gives Broadway a run for its money. The first surprise of the night came along with the first individual Freddy of the night.
"It's a tie!"
Michael Guerriere from Notre Dame High and Loretta Doyle from Phillipsburg High School shared the award for Outstanding Performance by a Featured Dancer.
From the Phantom of the Opera, to the streets of Paris, the night was about honoring the best in high school musical theatre.
There were 30 high schools and no lack of personality or vocal talent.
Freedom and Parkland were big rivals of the night with 15 nominations each.
Parkland's production of the 'Phantom of the Opera' danced its way to six Freddys including Outstanding Performance of a Lead Actor by William Marshall.
"I'm so honored to be nominated with these amazing other outstanding actors."
Outstanding Lead Actress went to Ally Borgstrom from Hackettstown High for her performance in 'Annie Get Your Gun.'
"Oh my God, I should have written a speech!"
Outstanding Overall production by a smaller school went to Moravian Academy for 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'.
And the big winner of the night taking home Outstanding Overall Production was Parkland High School's 'Phantom of the Opera.
If you missed the Freddy's Thursday night, you can watch the show Saturday night starting at 10:30 p.m., right here on WFMZ.
