Evening gown (detail), 1923–1924, black and rust printed-silk chiffon, seed beads, gold metallic thread, and gold lamé, designed by Revellin, France (production #83295). Ellie Laubner Collection, Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley.
Intricate beading and fine embroidery place this designer gown a cut above other gowns. The patchwork print in black, rust, turquoise, and gold has been hand embroidered with gold metallic thread and turquoise and copper seed beads. Bias-cut panels are attached over each hip, creating an interesting uneven hem. The designer’s name, Revellin, and production number appear on the right panel, a gold lamé accent on the left.
