Allentown officials and police are working to make the city safer.
Mayor Ed Pawlowski and City Center President J.B. Reilly announced Tuesday the addition or replacement of 14 security cameras in the city.
The cameras will be located on Hamilton Street, Linden Street and the Arts Walk.
The city has seen a 20 percent drop in violent crimes and burglaries in the areas where the more than 130 cameras are already in place, officials said.
"It's our hope that the combination of private and public eyes watching our streets around the clock will give people complete confidence about living, working and playing in downtown Allentown," Reilly said.
Allentown police said there have been more than 170 arrests from camera catches and more than 7,000 calls have been generated from camera monitoring.
