If nachos, pizza and dip aren't enough for your Super Bowl party, there are plenty of places in the Lehigh Valley that are making wings.

If nachos, pizza and dip aren't enough for your Super Bowl party, there are plenty of places in the Lehigh Valley that are making wings. It's estimated Americans will eat 1.23 billion chicken wings this big game weekend.

At Grumpy's Bar-B-Que Roadhouse workers are busy prepping for Super Bowl Sunday. But you won't find any wings in the deep fryer, here they do chicken wings a little different.

"We take them from fresh, we put them on racks and we put them on our hickory wood pit," explained restaurant owner Mike Grimm.

Once the raw wings are on the racks they get covered in Grumpy dust, a barbecue rub. Then they go in the smoker. Hickory wood is used to give the wings a unique flavor.

"It's generally about 2 hours, sometimes a little longer," shared Grimm. "You got to get them cooked through and through."

Cooking them this way may take a while but it makes a more tender and flavorful piece of meat.

"It's almost falling off the bone tender because it's been actually baked, 250 degrees for a couple hours."

Once the meat is falling off the bone it's onto the charbroiler. This is where the wings get finished and flavored. For 70-cents apiece the orders are rolling in. They expect to get calls about wings all the way through Sunday, and say they sell about 300. Other hot items for Super Bowl Sunday at Grumpy's are the ribs and pulled pork, and they're still taking orders.
