BASD Board approves 3 operating budgets

BETHELEHEM, Pa. -

The Bethlehem Area School District Board of Directors approved three separate 2014-2015 operating budgets for partnering institutions during Monday night's meeting at East Hills Middle School.

The nine-member legislative body approved budgets for the Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 and Northampton Community College, all three of which were presented during the finance committee meeting of March 17th.

The cash-strapped district approved a 9.14 percent increase in the BAVTS budget, totaling $6,033,012.The school has an overall increase of 5.2 percent for the 2014-2015 year for a total of $10,835,562, the majority of which will be paid for by BASD.

In the case of CIU 20, the district will shell out an estimated $102,547 during the 2014-2015 school year, with the exact figure fluctuating based on changes in weighted average daily memberships and market values.

And the district will contribute $2,294,708 to NCC, an increase of 3.7 percent from the 2013-2014 year, or $81,801.

In addition, the board appointed Mary Sharp-Ross to a six-year term to the NCC Board of Trustees. Sharp-Ross will replace Charlene Koch whose term expires in June
